American fast food chain Carl's Jr. plans to return to work in Brazil again. The company arrived in Brazil in 2012, with a store in two shopping centres in São Paulo and one at the Guarulhos International Airport (GRU Airport), but in 2017 the stores were closed.

The California company plans to open 100 restaurants in the country over the next five years, but the company believes that number will quintuple over the initially set deadline. Carl's Jr. already operates in Latin America, with 15 units in Chile and Ecuador and has similar plans for Uruguay.

According to Marc Mushkin, Vice President of International Franchise Sales and Network Development, the company has rethought its business model in the face of changing consumer behaviour driven by the pandemic. One of the novelties adopted by Carl's Jr. it was the OMNI - Next Generation model, implemented in Mexico, which is more compact to adapt to the sizes of locations and to meet omnichannel sales.
