The Rio de Janeiro-based manager Atmos caused controversy for its view on ESG (environmental, social and governance) investments. In a recent letter, the manager defended her investment in Eneva, a generator of energy based on coal, the most polluting fuel. The letter led Fabio Alperowitch, founder of the manager FAMA and the largest ESG specialist in the Brazilian financial market, to criticize Atmos' positioning. After the clash, Atmos' investment in the shopping mall company BrMalls will be the next to be looked at with a magnifying glass.

Behind the scenes, the manager, owner of 5% of BrMalls shares, has been identified as the biggest opponent of the idea of convening a shareholders' meeting to vote on the merger proposal made by Aliansce Sonae in January. The manager is very close to the board of BrMalls – of which she is even a neighbour of a building in Leblon.
