Recently arrived in Brazil, the American broadcaster CNBC, a division of NBC Universal focused on economic news, will be launching in the country as Times Brasil | CNBC. The channel has chosen one of São Paulo’s prime financial districts, the Berrini area, as its base of operations for its journalistic activities.
But what were the reasons and strategies behind this choice? To gain insight into the channel's objectives, which will be broadcast via subscription TV, the REsource portal by SiiLA spoke with Rafael Gomide, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Times Brasil | CNBC. He explained the decision to choose Berrini and provided more details about the building that will house the channel's broadcasts.
As REsource by SiiLA discovered, the broadcaster will occupy suite 62 of Berrini One, a high-standard (class A+) building located near Avenida Luís Carlos Berrini and Avenida dos Bandeirantes in the southern part of São Paulo. The office itself covers around 1,000 m². However, Times Brasil | CNBC announced it would be occupying approximately 2,000 m², including additional spaces in the building that will be used by the news channel, such as the helipad, rooftop, an auditorium for over 100 people, and exclusive parking spaces.
Berrini One, a 30-story building, is a benchmark in terms of technical specifications, boasting sustainability certifications like Green Building and LEED Gold. It offers over 1,000 parking spaces and features smart elevators.
According to Rafael Gomide, COO of Times Brasil | CNBC, the choice of Berrini One was influenced by the building's location in what the broadcaster considers São Paulo’s new financial center.
"Although our channel aims to reach audiences from all social, economic, age, and cultural groups, being a business news outlet, it’s crucial to be close to one of the main financial hubs in the country. Additionally, Berrini One offers stunning views of the region, which will serve as a backdrop for our studios," he explained.
Gomide also noted that the office will house administrative, financial, commercial, and marketing departments, as well as the newsroom, technical center, executive offices, and three studios for broadcasting news and programs. The main studio alone is over 100 m².
When asked about the rental costs for Times Brasil | CNBC, Gomide stated that this information is confidential but added, "It’s a significant amount, in line with the region's values."
According to Market Analytics by SiiLA, the average Market Rent for the second quarter of this year at Berrini One is R$ 117/m². Itaim Bibi, Faria Lima, JK,
While waiting for the final touches to be completed at the office that will house the broadcaster, around 120 employees who will work at the site are still awaiting the move to Berrini One. Currently, they are working in a temporary office, which the broadcaster has not disclosed.
When asked about a timeline for the move to the new space, Gomide stated that the information will be released soon.
