GuardeAqui, a company owned by partners Pátria Investimentos and Equity International (of mega-investor Sam Zell), has just closed the acquisition of startup Booxie, intending to break new ground in the security guard market. GuardeAqui is a pioneer in renting mini deposits for people and companies to store objects on their own. Altogether, there are 25 warehouses in operation, which puts it at the forefront of the market.Booxie (whose original name was Hangar), on the other hand, is a company dedicated to providing the service of collection of items, storage and return to the owners. While GuardeAqui is a real estate operating company, asset-heavy in market jargon, Booxie is a service company, asset-light, without the need for its own equity, like Airbnb, for example.
