Head of AliExpress in Brazil wants the industry to be articulated through infrastructure

The precarious infrastructure and the lack of strength and union of the business community to seek solutions with the government are among the biggest challenges for developing e-commerce in the country, according to the head of the Brazilian operation of AliExpress, Yan Di. Despite criticism from competitors about the use of his platform by informal traders, he says he would be interested in talking about this articulation with other leaders in the field.

Di states that AliExpress respects Brazilian legislation and requires CNPJ and the issuance of an invoice for the sale of products. However, he admits that most of the platform's consumers shop as individuals to resell the items. To offer them through AliExpress, however, formalization is required.

Without the union of businessmen on the infrastructure plan, AliExpress takes steps towards more independent logistics. According to sources, the moves would include constructing its first distribution centre in the country. At the same time, Correios continues to be the strategic partner to reach remote locations in Brazil.

The possible privatization of the state-owned company, which has already been cited as a threat by a company spokeswoman, is not a reason for fear for Di. On the contrary, new competitors' entry in this medium would be beneficial to everyone who uses the service. "In China, yes, there is competition," he says. "There, we are led to squeezing the margin to a minimum to win the consumer."
