The Indian EPL will invest R$ 100 million in a factory in Seropédica (RJ) to produce toothpaste tubes for the consumer goods giant Procter & Gamble (P&G). The factory is expected to start operating later this year. The information is from the Secretariat of Economic Development of the Government of Rio de Janeiro.
In 2020, P&G completed the process of expanding and modernizing the manufacturing unit in Seropédica, dedicated to the manufacture of hair and oral care products, such as the Pantene and Oral-B brands. The company maintained two industrial facilities in the State of Rio, and with the move, all production was consolidated into the newer structure. When it announced the expansion, the company said that Oral-B should launch new toothpaste and expand the offer of electric toothbrushes, making them more accessible.
The Indian company had already informed the market about its entry into Brazil and the contract with a multinational, but had not revealed the name of P&G. In February, the CEO of EPL, Anand Kripalu, stated in a conference with analysts that they had a long-term agreement with a multinational to make an investment in Brazil. Without providing details about the amount, he mentioned that the intention was to establish a factory in the country.
"Our intention is to, with the first two full years of production, start to have a reasonable margin on this Brazilian business. We want you to know that we are moving forward with this project," he stated at the time.
