IPCA-15 inflation preview reached 0.59% in May

The National Consumer Price Index - 15 (IPCA-15), the preview of official inflation in Brazil, was 0.59% in May. Despite the calm in the electricity bill, families spent more on health, transport and food, raising the result to the highest level for the month since 2016, when it stood at 0.86%, according to data released this Tuesday, 24, by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
The result surpassed the median forecast of 0.45% of financial market analysts consulted by Estadão/Broadcast, who had expected a rise of 0.28% to 0.70%. The 12-month rate accelerated from 12.03% in April to 12.20% in May, the highest since November 2003.
