The shopping center sector in Brazil grew by 20.5% in revenues in 2022, reaching R$191.8 billion. The return of visitors and the growth in sales influenced the increase.
The Southeast region had the highest growth, with a 22% increase, followed by the Northeast, Midwest, South, and North regions.
The number of malls inaugurated also grew, with eight new developments in 2022, against five in 2021, totaling 628 malls in operation. This year, 15 new inaugurations are expected, distributed in many regions in the country.
The number of stores also increased by 2.7% compared to 2021, reaching 115 thousand.
The president of the Brazilian Association of Shopping Centers (Abrasce), Glauco Humai, highlighted that the sector's positive performance in 2022 is a sign of its resilience after the Covid-19 crisis.
For 2023, the projection is for a 14.6% increase in sales, which may result in record revenue for the sector, with a projection of R$ 219.8 billion.
