Noah, a sustainable construction company, has partnered with McDonald's to build the franchise's new restaurant in São Paulo. Situated on Bernardino de Campos Avenue, near Paulista Avenue, the unit was opened at the end of August and is already garnering attention for its sustainable features.
One of the highlights of this project is the use of engineered wood, which has the capacity to absorb up to 1 ton of CO2 per cubic meter. The amount of material used in the restaurant's structure can capture and store up to 136 tons of carbon dioxide, making a significant contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The project is part of the "Flight to Sustainability" movement, which encourages companies to embrace more sustainable practices. McDonald's was one of the first brands to join this initiative, marking a significant milestone in Noah's journey.
In addition to its positive environmental impact, the 500-square-meter restaurant follows the global trend of constructions using engineered wood. This approach also reduces the amount of waste generated during construction, aligning with other sustainable practices adopted in the restaurant, such as efficient waste management and the use of circular materials.
"This project is part of a larger movement with a mission to help the construction industry evolve in the country, and having McDonald's on board is very important and strategic. This project endorses the benefits and advantages of using engineered wood in the construction process and also provides more sophistication and lightness to the environment, matching the profile and style of the new consumer, who is increasingly conscious of environmental issues", says Nicolaos Theodorakis, founder and CEO of Noah.
The fast-food chain operator, Arcos Dourados, sought suppliers aligned with the company's purpose to deliver a project with a greater positive impact. "The use of engineered wood, which combines responsible sourcing with technology, delivered this to us. With the result of this partnership, we will be able to bring our customers even closer to our socio-environmental activities", says Marie Tarrisse, Senior Manager of Social Impact and Sustainable Development at the Brazil Division of Arcos Dorados.
In early 2022, SiiLA CEO Giancarlo Nicastro had a conversation with Noah's CEO about the company's sustainable projects. Watch the interview.
