More than two years after the pandemic sparked a mass exodus from New York City's office buildings, and after many companies announced and suspended plans to return to the office, employees have finally begun slowly returning to their desks. But remote work has reshaped the way people work and lessen the predominance of the workplace within corporations.

Companies have adapted. Meeting rooms got a new face. Desks previously used by one person are now available to anyone on a first-come, first-served basis. Managers have adopted flexible working arrangements, allowing employees to decide when they want to work face-to-face.
