O GLOBO — The vacancy rate in high-end Rio offices remained nearly the same — about 35% — in the past quarter, but the stability in numbers conceals a flurry of comings and goings among tenants, as revealed in a survey by SiiLA.
The list of companies that leased the most office spaces in the city is led by Faculdade Idor, an institution focused on medical courses and maintained by Rede D’Or. The institution occupied 1,500 square meters of office floors in Glória 122, a "Class A" development in the South Zone.
Following closely are the insurance company Porto Seguro and the French ophthalmic lens manufacturer Essilor, each securing nearly 1,300 square meters in the Linneo de Paula Machado building, one of the most traditional in the city center.
Finally, the Malaysian transportation company MSIC Berhad also acquired approximately 1,300 square meters in the Centro Empresarial Mário Henrique Simonsen, one of the key developments in Barra da Tijuca, West Zone.
On the flip side, the company that vacated the largest office space in Rio in the quarter was Liberty Seguros, which handed back the keys to 1,800 square meters in the Candido Mendes building in the city center. Nearby, Lojas Americanas returned a corporate floor of 1,536 square meters in the Passeio 56 building, marking the second-largest surrender of the month.
