Owner of the chains Casas Bahia, Ponto:> (formerly Ponto Frio) and furniture manufacturer Bartira, Via took Varejo from the name in April, emphasizing that the sector in which it built the base of its empire no longer defines the company. To support its strategy, it accelerated the construction of a portfolio of technology companies in 2020, with the acquisitions of delivery startup ASAPLog, software developer i9XP and digital bank BanQi, co-developed with US fintech Airfox, also absorbed in last year.

In an interview with Quem Inova, the company's CEO, Roberto Fulcherberguer, spoke about the company's current priorities, which serves 85 million customers in more than 400 Brazilian municipalities, with a base of around 41,000 employees. One of the company's main areas of focus is the expansion of the fintech arm: on Monday (19), the company approved the allocation of R$ 300 million in equity capital for personal credit through BanQi, which last week received the guarantee of the Central Bank to operate as a credit company.

The group's physical network with more than 1,000 stores – which should gain another 120 by the end of 2021, mainly in the North and Northeast of the country – is another instrumental part in the process, as it offers a significantly higher cost of a relationship with the consumer lower than in the online environment. In addition, the company has a base of over 20,000 sellers who have become ambassadors for e-commerce with the advent of the pandemic, according to Fulcherberguer.
