Shopee is building its first distribution center in Brazil, showing that the Asian e-commerce giant wants to overhaul its logistics to compete with Mercado Livre, Amazon, Magalu & others, said a source. The warehouse is being built in Barueri (SP), a city located half an hour from the capital of São Paulo and which also got the first Amazon distribution center back in 2014. The structure is being built on a street parallel to the Presidente Castelo Branco highway, which leads directly to the city of São Paulo. It is not clear when the warehouse will be completed. In an interview with the MobileTime website in May, Shopee Brazil business manager, Felipe Feistler, said that the company did not have a distribution center in Brazil and that, around here, it focused on intermediation between sellers and buyers without interfering in logistics. But the information was going around among Shopee sellers for a few months that the site would bring its fulfillment solution to Brazil.
Another floor in Faria Lima
Shopee is also expanding its administrative structure in Brazil. As reported in the column a year ago, Shopee installed an office at B32, a building located in one of the lavish addresses on Avenida Faria Lima, the financial heart of São Paulo. The Singapore company has taken over another building slab and is now occupying three floors, said sources familiar with the progress.
