Data released by the Brazilian Association of Shopping Centers (Abrasce) reveals that the shopping centre public in Brazil is 20% lower than that recorded in the pre-pandemic period.

Even with the easing of lockdowns and restrictions during the pandemic, the shopping centre market in Brazil has faced low attendance. Many stores stopped receiving around 100 million visits, representing a 21% drop compared to 505 million in 2019.

Glauco Humai, president of Abrasce, says that two factors explain such behaviour; one of them would be the fact that most malls are located in corporate regions and the growth of online sales.
