Congonhas Airport, one of the city's key air travel hubs, has commenced operations under the management of Aena Brasil. This transition came about as part of the seventh round of concessions, which encompassed ten pivotal airport facilities across the nation. Aena's CEO, Santiago Yus, shared a compelling vision for the airport's future, emphasizing the planned enhancements that aim to position Congonhas as one of the most contemporary and efficient airports in the country.
A standout feature among these improvements is the expansion of the terminal. With the planned additions, the new Congonhas terminal will sprawl across a staggering 80,000 square meters, nearly double its current size.
As the executive notes, "The delivery of these new structures is expected by June 2028, in accordance with our contractual obligation to implement the planned improvements starting 60 months from the commencement of operations. During this transformation, airport operations will remain unaffected."
The slated improvements for Congonhas Airport's initial phase include the reconfiguration of access roads to the airport, a facelift for the façade, bathroom renovations, and parking facilities upgrades. In the second phase, the new terminal will be linked to the upcoming Line 17-Gold Monorail, scheduled for completion in 2026. Once fully delivered by the state government, this monorail will establish a direct connection between the airport and the Chucri Zaidan region, a vital business center in São Paulo.
According to data from SiiLA, Chucri Zaidan currently boasts the highest quantity of office space in the region, with nearly 800,000 square meters dedicated to top-tier properties (Classes A+ and A). In addition to the monorail, the area is undergoing various road infrastructure enhancements, while commercial buildings in the district are witnessing a resurgence in occupancy. Chucri Zaidan currently accommodates heavyweight tenants such as Amil, Vivo, Claro, and other major corporations.
