Vale opted for the flexible working model in its global post-pandemic operation. COVID-19 put 22% of the mining company’s own workforce of 74,472 people into remote work. The work-at-home is permanent for this group, but alternated with in-person meetings in the offices, collaborative spaces, or hubs, that the company will create until March 2021. The operational functions, in the mines, will continue in person, the which occurred even during the pandemic, with mining being classified by the government as an essential activity.The company created the Jornada Vale program to revisit its physical spaces and shape the new regime which it dubbed the flexible office. “We want to leave the traditional office model, but rethink the environments to transform them into hubs of innovation and collaboration,”, says Josilda Saad, executive manager and program leader. “Nobody else will have their own desk or permanent spaces reserved by area. Vale created an application for booking spaces, such as movie theatres,” he says.
