To House Ride-Hailing App 99, WeWork Evicts 150 Tenants from Girassol 555 and Seeks to Relocate Them to Other Units

Arriving at work, passing through the turnstile, sitting down at the desk, and starting the day is routine for thousands of people. For those who used the WeWork Girassol location, however, that routine has changed in recent weeks.

The coworking company has made a decision that will alter the workspace of around 150 people, dedicating it exclusively to a single company. Market sources report that the ride-hailing app 99 will take over the space in question, expanding its operations, though the information has not been officially confirmed. According to accounts, WeWork canceled existing reservations and notified the affected users directly.

99 reached out to REsource to deny the claims. The company is currently based in a WeWork location on Avenida Paulista, in the Comolatti building.

The US-based multinational’s business model ranges from one-off meeting room rentals to the leasing of entire floors or buildings, in a sublease format.

At WeWork Girassol 555, the operation initially occupied three blocks — A, B, and C. However, Block C was shut down following the company’s recent crisis. Today, one of the blocks is fully leased by QuintoAndar, while another had been hosting companies and independent professionals. Sources say that, technically, no user was directly impacted, as none had an exclusive contract for the spaces in question.

Even so, the change was not well-received by all tenants. Parties involved, interviewed by REsource, reported dissatisfaction among occupants. Some have even moved to competitor Regus, which has been absorbing part of this demand.
