TikTok’s decision to build its first data center in Latin America in Brazil reinforces the country’s strategic role in the expansion of global digital infrastructure. The announcement, made last Wednesday (3), is based on a combination of factors that position Brazil as the most prepared environment to support large-scale projects: energy robustness, international connectivity, and territorial capacity for critical operations.
The facility will be built in the Pecém Complex, in Ceará, with an estimated investment of more than R$ 200 billion through 2035, including R$ 108 billion allocated to high-tech equipment. The choice of location is directly connected to the technological ecosystem developed in the region in recent years. The state hosts the largest concentration of fiber-optic submarine cables in Latin America, connecting the country to the U.S., Europe, and Africa through low-latency routes — a decisive asset for companies that depend on massive data processing.
“This is a decisive step to strengthen our contribution to Brazil’s digital ecosystem,” said Monica Gueisi, TikTok’s Head of Public Policy. According to her, the project combines “technological innovation, socioeconomic impact, and sustainability,” pillars that support the decision to operate in the country and expand local data infrastructure.
For Rodrigo Abreu, CEO of Omnia, the project marks a new chapter for the Northeast on the global technology map. “This partnership brings together technical knowledge, scale, and infrastructure to deliver a data center driven by innovation and sustainability. It places the Northeast at the center of global transformations in technology and clean energy,” he said.
With the project, Pecém is positioned to become one of Brazil’s most relevant digital infrastructure hubs, boosting sectors such as energy, industrial real estate, and connectivity solutions — and consolidating the Northeast on the map of technological transformations shaping the next decade.
