Yesterday, on Wednesday (04), Amazon confirmed to cut more than 18,000 jobs. Despite predicting this action, the number of employees affected was higher than expected.
Andy Jassy, CEO of Amazon, published a letter to employees where he attributed this decision to the uncertain economic scenario, claiming that the company aims to prioritize what is most important to customers and maintain the business's health.
The manager understands that this is a difficult time for employees and the entire team. According to the letter, dismissals should start on the 18th of January.
"We are working to support those affected and will provide benefits packages that include extra compensation, transitional health insurance, and external job placement support," adds Jassy.
According to the CEO, the company decided to make this action public, as an employee leaked the information.
