'Consumer is less likely to buy", according with Via's CEO

'Via, the owner of the Casas Bahia and Ponto chains, has been experiencing a more "challenging" consumption environment in the last three months and sees the offer of credit as crucial at this time; the company's CEO, Roberto Fulcherberger said yesterday at "Live do Valor". He also commented on the recent drop in the company's shares and the announcement of an extension of R$1.5 billion in debt, reported on Sunday night.

"This challenging scenario is visible; the consumer is less likely to buy [...]. The challenge is broad. We started offering credit through our 'fintech' banQi in the second quarter, accelerated in the following quarter, and late payments similar to those of instalment plans. Offering credit at these times is super important", said the executive. BanQi's loan operations will start this year, he said.
