DHL has been in the country since 1978 and is part of the DPDHL Group, a German group with revenues of 56.6 billion euros that also controls the post office in Germany, Deutsche Post. In 2016, DHL Supply Chain had sales of 13.9 billion euros and was present in over 55 countries, with 1,400 distribution centers and offices covering an area of 11.7 million square meters.
Here, the company has 13,000 employees and operates 1.2 million square meters of distribution centers and cross-docking facilities. The fleet consists of approximately 500 trucks. Specifically for e-commerce, there are 193,000 square meters available.
With the closure of physical stores, shopping centers, restaurants, and even dealerships at the beginning of the pandemic, the logistics demand for these businesses plummeted. Like many other companies worldwide, the transportation and logistics company turned to e-commerce sales. "We experienced a significant drop in volume in the first few months. We decided to boost the express delivery mode for distances of up to 1,000 kilometers", says Maurício Barros, President of DHL in Brazil.
