In the latest episode of the NXT Podcast, hosted by Giancarlo Nicastro, family law attorney Letícia Pupio discusses the complexities behind marriages and divorces. She explains how emotions, assets and family relationships often become intertwined during a separation.
According to the specialist, breakups tend to be traumatic mainly because they shatter expectations created at the beginning of a relationship. Culturally, she says, Brazilians tend to idealize love and avoid discussing uncomfortable topics such as death, separation and the division of assets.
Throughout the conversation, Letícia argues that discussing these possibilities does not mean expecting the relationship to end. Instead, it means recognizing that family decisions have emotional, legal and financial consequences.
At the end of the conversation, Letícia emphasizes that the end of a marriage does not necessarily mean that the people involved have failed. Relationships can take on new forms and, despite the pain caused by a breakup, love remains an experience worth pursuing.
The main challenge is understanding when a chapter has come to an end and building the next one without allowing resentment to turn into an ongoing dispute. For couples with children, this process also requires recognizing that while the marriage may end, the family will continue to exist in a new form.
