Shopee, one of Brazil's most popular marketplace platforms, has announced the opening of its tenth distribution center (DC) in the country, in the metropolitan region of Goiânia. This is the company's first DC in the Central-West region.
In A+, A, and B class developments monitored by SiiLA, Shopee occupies 191,000 square meters. According to the Market Analytics platform, just last year, the Chinese company occupied an additional 16,000 square meters in three developments, BTLG Ribeirão Preto, HGLG Betim, and LOG Campos, all in the Southeast region.
The new distribution center adopts the "cross-docking" model, in which collected goods are promptly reorganized and forwarded for delivery to the end consumer.
Rafael Flores, Shopee's director of expansion and logistics, highlights the strategic importance of this opening: "This opening represents a strategic step for Shopee to strengthen its logistical infrastructure, getting closer to collection points in the Federal District and Goiás, as well as allowing for a more efficient mesh connection and faster delivery speed for consumers throughout the Central-West region."
In addition to the new center in Goiânia, Shopee already operates nine other DCs in different states, such as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Paraná, Minas Gerais, Bahia, and Pernambuco. According to the company, this expansion aims to meet the growing demand of Brazilian consumers and strengthen the company's presence throughout the national territory.
In a statement, the company states that it has been significantly investing in optimizing its logistics operation, from product collection to final delivery. Currently, it has more than 100 first and last-mile logistics hubs, all intended for products from Brazilian sellers. Additionally, Shopee has a network of over 20,000 driver partners and offers approximately 1,800 pick-up/drop-off points throughout the country, in the pick-up/drop-off (PUDO) model.
