Retail sales grew 2.8% in August

According to Cielo, this was the tenth month in a row that the ICVA (Cielo Expanded Retail Index) is positive.

The retail sector had an increase in its sales of 2.8% in August, compared to last year and discounted for inflation, according to an index calculated from payment company Cielo, released last Tuesday.

According to Cielo, this was the tenth month in a row that the ICVA (Cielo Expanded Retail Index) is positive, and this has not happened since December 2019. Diego Andorno, Cielo's Data product manager, highlighted in a statement that the segments of transport, tourism; gas stations; bars; and restaurants have been enhancing the index's performance.

"In the case of gas stations, it is possible to associate the acceleration of sales growth, already discounting inflation, to the recent price drop".
